How do the play-offs work, and who will have a chance through this route if they fail to make it through the groups?
Who Has Qualified?
England and Scotland were among the early qualifiers during the October international break. How Many Teams Qualify for UEFA Euro 2024?
For Euro 2024, there will be 24 teams competing, divided into six groups of four. Germany, as the host nation, automatically secures a spot. How Do the Play-offs Work? Who Qualifies for the Play-offs?
The play-offs will consist of 12 teams, divided into three brackets – one each for Leagues A, B, and C, based on their performance in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League campaign.
Originally, the four play-off spots were allocated to the four group winners in each league. However, as Nations League group winners qualify through the standard route, their spots will be offered to the next-best ranked teams in their respective leagues.
League A group winners were the Netherlands, Croatia, Spain, and Italy. The League B group winners were Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Scotland. In League C, the group winners were Georgia, Greece, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.
While these 12 teams were initially guaranteed a play-off spot before the Euro 2024 qualifiers began, Spain, Scotland, and Turkey have since secured automatic qualification. Therefore, there will be changes in the play-off paths by the time they are decided.
