As the 2022 FIFA World Cup draws near, national teams have begun to release their official 26-man squads for the tournament. The latest big squad announcement came from Brazil. The number one ranked nation in the world have released their official squad which features a good number of Brazilians that play their football in the English Premier League. The squad is headlined by Neymar, who will be looking to make his mark on the tournament and become Brazil’s all-time leading scorer.
12 Premier League players were included in the Brazil squad but there were two notable absentees in Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes. It was already a certainty that Aston Villa midfielder Philippe Coutinho will miss the World Cup due to injury.
Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, who were not in the last Brazil squad for the previous round of international fixtures have forced the hand of Tite, the coach of Brazil due to their stellar form and key roles in helping Arsenal rise to the top of the table this season. The same could not be said about their teammate, Gabriel Magalhaes who was not selected at all with Juventus defender Bremer getting the nod instead.
Chelsea star man Thiago Silva will continue to be ever present for his country as he looks to add a World Cup trophy to his already impressive haul. West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta has become one of the most important players in the Brazil team so it is no surprise that he is also o the plane to Qatar.
Brazil’s two best keepers who play for the to best clubs in the land have also been selected for the tournament. Manchester City’s Ederson and Liverpool’s Alisson will be going to the World Cup.
Allison isn’t the only Liverpool player to make it into the squad either, as Fabinho was also called up. Unfortunately, the great form of Fabiho’s Liverpool teammate, Roberto Firmino has not propelled him to a World Cup squad selection.
Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes has emerged as one of the best midfelders in the Premier League, earning his inclusion to the World Cup squad as a result.
Casemiro will be looking to take his great form for Manchester United to the World Cup because he will be one of their most important players who will most likely play every game. Fred will also play a key role in Brazil’s midfield alongside Casemiro. Their Manchester United teammate, Antony shared a heartwarming video on Social Media of himself and his family when the World Cup squad was announced. There were jubilant scenes all around him when his name was called and Antony was unable to hold back the tears knowing he would be representing his country at the World Cup..
Tottenham’s Richarlison, who has been the first choice striker for Brazil of late will come under serious competition with the inclusion of Gabriel Jesus.
