Liverpool v Brighton preview: free-scoring visitors head to Anfield

Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield on Sunday 25 October (2pm) in Premier League gameweek 8, with the visitors higher in the table and scoring far more freely.

Where the sides stand

Brighton are third with 16 points from seven games, five of them wins, and a goal difference of +18. Liverpool are fifth on 12 points from seven, with three wins and a goal difference of +1. Manchester City lead the way on 21 points after winning all seven of their matches.

Form points the same way. Brighton have won four and drawn one of their last five, scoring 16 and conceding one. That run includes 5-0 wins over Crystal Palace and Coventry City, a 3-0 win over Arsenal and a 1-1 draw with Leeds United.

Liverpool have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five. They beat Ipswich Town 2-0, Bournemouth 1-0 and Brentford 2-1, drew 0-0 with Fulham and lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City.

The numbers that matter

Brighton average 3.29 goals per game and concede 0.71. Liverpool average 1.29 and concede 1.14. That gives Brighton 2.29 points per game against Liverpool's 1.71, and five clean sheets to the hosts' three. Liverpool have collected 18 yellow cards, Brighton 15.

Expected goals data via Fantasy Premier League, which measures the quality of chances created, backs up the gap in attack. Brighton create 2.18 xG per game and allow 1.49. Liverpool create 1.57 and allow 1.18.

Isak is Liverpool's main threat, with five goals from 3.87 xG in 491 minutes. Wirtz has three assists but no goals. For Brighton, Groß has three goals and six assists, Kostoulas three goals and four assists, and Hinshelwood three goals from 82 minutes.

Injuries and absentees

FPL lists Liverpool with six players out: Frimpong, Bradley, Leoni, Ekitiké, Jaros and Szoboszlai, all with a 0% chance of playing. Szoboszlai is also FPL's first-choice penalty taker for Liverpool. Munoz is listed as doubtful with a knee injury, 75% chance of playing.

Brighton have their own concerns. FPL lists Tzimas and Ferguson as out, and Mitoma, Yohanna and Azeez as injured with an expected return date of 31 October. Wieffer is doubtful at 25%, Minteh at 50% and Struijk at 75%.

Struijk's availability has a second question mark. He has a straight red card on record, and by MFF's card count he would miss this game only if the ban is the three-match one for serious foul play or violent conduct.

Recent meetings

Liverpool have won four of the last six meetings, Brighton two, with no draws. Brighton won the most recent 2-1 on 21 March 2026, but Liverpool won 3-0 on 14 February and 2-0 on 13 December 2025. Brighton also won 3-2 on 19 May 2025.

MFF's match model predicts a 2-1 Brighton win, with a 50% chance of an away win, 27% for a Liverpool win and 24% for a draw.
