Depay wants out of Barcelona
It has not been rosy for Memphis Depay at the Nou Camp. The Dutch forward arrived at the Nou Camp with plenty of expectations, but things have not gone to script for him. Depay has seen his two-year spell with Los Blaugrana as a painful experience and is keen to cut it short.
With games hard to come by under Xavi, Depay seems to have had enough and wants to leave. The Barcelona outcast has decided that Manchester United is the place to be, as he feels he could get more regular game time under Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag.
The arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich is part of the frustration the Dutchman has had to endure. It has forced him out of the first team this season. Depay has made only two La Liga appearances this season – a situation he finds untenable.
Bad United experience
Depay has a Barcelona contract that expires at the end of the season, with no offers from Barcelona yet. The Dutchman finds himself in a situation that suggests he could leave the club in the summer or January if a decent bid arrives. It is unlikely that Barcelona would stand in his way if an offer comes.
Spanish outlet Sport reports that Depay has decided where he wants to go. The former Lyon striker wants to return to the Premier League, with Man United as his best option. There have been links for the Red Devils to the Dutchman this month as they look to sign a striker that would not cost mega-bucks.
Depay had a spell to forget at Old Trafford. He joined the club in 2015 with plenty of fanfare under Louis van Gaal. Things didn’t work out for him at the Premier League side. He was transferred to Lyon the following season after Jose Mourinho saw him as a surplus to requirement.
Depay revived his career at Lyon, which earned him a transfer to Barcelona in 2021. Meanwhile, Barcelona is looking to offload players after the summer splurge.
