Joelinton faces season-ending injury setback

By Martin Graham

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has revealed that Joelinton is unlikely to return before the campaign concludes. The midfielder is currently sidelined with a knee problem and did not feature in the 3-0 victory against Ipswich last week.

The 28-year-old has since travelled to Brazil after consulting a specialist. According to Howe, the diagnosis was not severe, but a period of rest was recommended. As a result, Joelinton returned to his homeland to recover.

Despite the concerning news, Howe noted the player’s strong determination to make a comeback. “With Joe you never rule him out. He’s so motivated to try and come back,” he said. However, the head coach admitted that a return in the final few fixtures is “probably not” going to happen.

Newcastle’s midfield options as pressure builds

With only four matches remaining in the Premier League season, Joelinton’s absence comes at a crucial moment. Newcastle currently sits in third place, but the race for Champions League qualification remains tight, with just two points separating them from Nottingham Forest in sixth.

In Joelinton’s absence, several players are being considered to fill the gap in the midfield. Lewis Miley, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock are all possible replacements for the upcoming clash against Brighton on Saturday.

Newcastle will be hoping that the available squad members can maintain momentum in the final stretch of the season as they aim to secure a top-four finish.
