The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o has set a very high standard for his nation going into the world cup in Qatar.
The former Cameroon striker who is now the head of his nation’s football association has charged his team to go all the way in the World Cup, which he will be attending alongside other delegates from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Eto’o, who himself represented his country on four occasions at the world cup (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010) could not achieve much for his country on the global scene. He now hopes that this generation of players will be able to surpass his generation’s legacies.
The ex-Barcelona hitman who was voted in as the new FECAFOOT president last year December, believes that his nation has the names and talent to compete with any team at the mundial.
Eto’o also expressed confidence in the names which adorn the Cameroon team sheet. The nation has players in the top leagues and the former RCD Mallorca man believes that they can dream of winning with the profile they have.
The Central Africans had their best performance in the mundial at the 1990 tournament when they fielded the likes of Roger Milla who put up memorable performances that set Africa on the map of world football.
Cameroon’s coach is the legendary defender Rigobert Song, who, till date, is the player with the most African Cup of Nations appearances. He will be hopeful in his quest to take the Indomitable Lions as far as possible in the tournament.
Cameroon has been drawn in Group G – considered the group of death – alongside Switzerland, Brazil and Serbia. They will kick off their tournament on November 24 against Switzerland.
