Squad rotation as key players return from injury

In addition to Chilwell’s return, right-back Malo Gusto is available again after recovering from injury, giving Maresca more options in defense. The manager also hinted that other players, including Mykhailo Mudryk, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Benoit Badiashile, could be in contention to start against Barrow. Barrow, despite being 64 places behind Chelsea in the football league pyramid, are performing well in League Two, where they currently sit joint top.

While Maresca will rotate his squad, his focus remains on keeping key players fresh for more significant challenges, with the club competing across five competitions this season, including the newly expanded Club World Cup.

Balancing priorities amid busy schedule

Despite the changes for the Carabao Cup, Maresca was clear that the Premier League remains Chelsea’s top priority as they juggle a demanding schedule. “The Premier League is always the main competition,” he said. “But it doesn’t mean other competitions are less important. We have to approach every game with the same mentality and give it our best. Only at the end of the season will we see if we’re close to achieving something.”

Maresca’s squad depth will be tested as Chelsea navigate their busy campaign, but he remains committed to making the most of every competition.
