Chelsea jump into the pool for De Jong

Frenkie de Jong has been in the news this summer with links to a potential move to Manchester United. The Old Trafford side see the midfielder as a vital component of the new United under Erik Ten Hag. Despite an agreement in place for the midfielder, there is still no success in landing the Dutchman.

A new twist to the tale could scupper the deal for United. Chelsea, who lost out in the race for Raphinha, have joined the race to land Frenkie de Jong. The interest of the Blues in de Jong could land a telling blow on the chances of United landing the player.

Manchester United find themselves backed in a corner as their fate no longer lies in their hands. Spanish news outlet Relevo reports that Barcelona know of Chelsea’s interest in Frenkie de Jong. They know the Stamford Bridge side are preparing a formal offer for the midfielder. Chelsea made their interest known and should present a bid soon.

Barcelona want to sell de Jong

Manchester United would be sweating buckets over their bid for the Netherlands international. Erik Ten Hag is keen to be reunited with his former player at Old Trafford following the fantastic relationship they enjoyed at Ajax.

Barcelona need the money to ease some of their financial issues and agreed to a deal with Manchester United. The Catalan giants are indebted to the Dutch midfielder. They owe him €17 million in deferred wages. Frenkie de Jong intends to get paid before leaving. He also is not keen on turning out for a side playing in the Europa League, and Chelsea could offer him the opportunity to remain in the Champions League.

De Jong has returned to training with the La Liga side and might be the signing for Chelsea. Todd Boehly is keen to turn Chelsea into league champions again, and after the acquisition of Koulibaly and Sterling, de Jong could be next. The Blues also remain confident they could land Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.
