Barcelona’s reputation for relentless attacking football under Hansi Flick continues to grow, with the side now matching a historic achievement nearly a century in the making.
Their 2–1 triumph over Real Sociedad not only moved them above Real Madrid in the La Liga standings but also stretched their streak of matches with at least one goal to 44. That run equals the longest in club history, first established more than eight decades ago.
Echoes of the past
Between 1942 and 1944, Juan José Nogués’s team set the original mark by finding the net in 44 successive games. Despite their attacking consistency, that squad fell short of securing the league title.
By contrast, Flick’s side has already turned their scoring power into silverware, claiming the first domestic treble in Barcelona’s history last season. That success came only a year after they endured a campaign without any major trophies.
From setbacks to dominance
The last time Barcelona ended a match without scoring was on December 15, 2024, when Leganés secured a 1–0 victory in La Liga. Just six days later, Atlético Madrid inflicted a second consecutive defeat with a 2–1 win.
The defeat to Atlético marked the start of Barcelona’s current streak, and from that point the Catalan club went unbeaten in the league until after the championship had already been secured.
Nine months of consistency
It has now been more than nine months since Barcelona was held scoreless, a run that showcases how much their attacking play has flourished under Flick’s guidance.
The challenge of setting a new record will come on October 1, when Barcelona hosts Paris Saint-Germain, the current Champions League holders. Victory and a goal would move this side clear of the history books, establishing the longest uninterrupted scoring run in the club’s existence.
