Who was the first sponsor of the Premier League?

Carling. The Premier League was known as the FA Carling Premiership from 1993-2001.

The FA announced on 4 June 2015 that it would not pursue any further title sponsorship deals for the Premier League, arguing that they wanted to build a “clean” brand for the competition more in line with those of major U.S. sports leagues.

They continued the relationship by agreeing to become the Banking Partner of the Premier League until the end of the 2018/19 season, a deal that has been renewed through to the 2021/22 season.
