FPL Gameweek 9 picks: Rogers captain, Barry the differential

MFF's model picks Rogers as Gameweek 9 captain, with Barry and Rudoni as low-owned options and a 3-5-2 Team of the Week built to FPL's £100m rules.

The Gameweek 9 deadline is Saturday 31 October at 11:00. Projected points below come from MFF's model and are not a promise. Prices, ownership and injury notes are FPL's.

MFF's Team of the Week

This is the best 15 inside FPL's £100m rules by MFF's projections. It plays a 3-5-2, costs £94.1m and projects 54.7 points. Rogers is captain and Mbeumo vice-captain.

  • XI: Kelleher; Van Hecke, Gabriel, Bogle; Rogers, Mbeumo, Tavernier, Rudoni, E.Le Fée; Haaland, Barry.
  • Bench: Kinsky, van Ewijk, Diop, Thomas-Asante.

Three picks stand out. Haaland (£15.8m) is the only premium in the side. Barry (£5.6m) is his partner up front. Rudoni (£4.9m) helps pay for it.

Captain pick

Rogers (Chelsea, £8m, 50.2% owned) faces Man Utd at home. MFF projects 5.3 points, the highest of any player. Chelsea's expected goals figure of 1.8 is the highest of our five captain options.

The alternative is Mbeumo (Man Utd, £7.9m, 21.4% owned). He plays at Chelsea and MFF projects 5.2. Haaland is third on 4.8 against Brighton at home.

Standout pick by position

  • Goalkeeper: Kelleher (Brentford, £5m) v Nottingham Forest, 4.0 points. Brentford's clean sheet chance is 35%.
  • Defender: Van Hecke (Tottenham, £4.9m) v Crystal Palace, 4.2 points. Tottenham's clean sheet chance is 35%.
  • Midfielder: Rogers (Chelsea, £8m) v Man Utd, 5.3 points.
  • Forward: Haaland (Man City, £15.8m, 78.3% owned) v Brighton, 4.8 points.

Value pick

Rudoni (Coventry City, £4.9m) hosts Sunderland and MFF projects 4.4 points. Only 0.7% of managers own him. His team-mate Dasilva (£4m) projects 3.6 in the same game.

Differential

Barry (Everton, £5.6m, 7.3% owned) plays at Newcastle. MFF projects 4.7 points, second only to Haaland among forwards and ahead of Thiago (£7.8m, 4.2).

Fixture runs to plan around

Over the next six gameweeks, the easiest runs belong to Brighton, Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool. The hardest belong to Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Coventry City and Crystal Palace. Rudoni, Dasilva and E.Le Fée are strong picks for this week, but their clubs are on that harder list. Treat them as short-term options.

Injury doubts

All of this comes from FPL.

  • FPL lists Calafiori (Arsenal, 50.9% owned) as doubtful with a hip injury, 75% chance of playing. It lists Rice (Arsenal) as doubtful, also 75%.
  • Lacroix (Chelsea) is doubtful with a hamstring injury, 75%. João Pedro (Chelsea, 62.5% owned) is injured with a thigh injury and has no known return date.
  • Thomas (Coventry City) is doubtful, 75%. N.Williams (Nottingham Forest) is doubtful with an arm injury, 75%.
  • Saka, Szoboszlai and Semenyo are listed as injured with no known return date. Mendy (Hull City) is expected back on 31 October.
