Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, has committed to a new lengthy contract with the club. The 31-year-old Argentine international has agreed to extend his tenure until 2029, solidifying his future at Villa Park for several more years.
Martinez, who joined Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020 for a fee of £17 million, has since established himself as a vital player in the squad. His time with the club has seen him make over 150 appearances, with his presence between the posts proving crucial.
The shot-stopper, who was part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning team in 2022, showcased his talent throughout the last Premier League campaign. Playing under Unai Emery, Martinez managed to keep nine clean sheets in 34 matches, contributing to Aston Villa’s strong finish in the league.
With Villa finishing fourth in the Premier League, they achieved a significant milestone by qualifying for the Champions League for the first time. Martinez’s performances were a key factor in this success, helping to solidify the club’s place among Europe’s elite.
This summer, Martinez further added to his growing list of achievements on the international stage. He featured in all six matches as Argentina successfully defended their Copa America title, claiming their 16th championship victory – a record in the competition.
