The USMNT face Belgium in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup on Monday, July 6, with kickoff at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT) at Lumen Field in Seattle. The match airs live on Fox, streams on Fox One, and carries Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo and Peacock.

It is the biggest game American soccer has seen in more than a decade, and it comes with a revenge storyline attached. Belgium were the team that ended the USA's run at the 2014 World Cup, winning 2-1 after extra time in the Round of 16 in Brazil. Twelve years later, on home soil, Mauricio Pochettino's side get their shot at putting that right.

How the USMNT Got Here

The USA arrive in Seattle off the back of a landmark result. Wednesday's 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina at Levi's Stadium was the program's first World Cup knockout victory since 2002, and it also snapped a 10-game losing streak against European opposition.

Folarin Balogun put the USA ahead just before halftime with his third goal of the tournament, and Malik Tillman sealed it with a superb 82nd-minute free kick while the team played with 10 men. Before that, Pochettino's side had won Group D with victories over Paraguay (4-1) and Australia (2-0) either side of a 3-2 defeat to Turkiye.

The Balogun Suspension

The win came at a cost. Balogun was shown a controversial red card in the second half against Bosnia and is suspended for the Belgium game. It is a major blow: the striker leads the USA with three goals and sits one short of Bert Patenaude's American record of four at a single World Cup, set back in 1930. Pochettino must now reshape his attack for the biggest match of his tenure.

What Is at Stake

Belgium arrive after surviving a five-goal thriller, beating Senegal 3-2 after extra time in their Round of 32 tie. The winner in Seattle advances to a quarterfinal in Los Angeles on Friday, July 10, against the winner of Spain vs Portugal. The USA have reached a World Cup quarterfinal only once in the modern era, in 2002, so victory on Monday would be a genuinely historic result for the host nation.
