England 2-1 Norway: 2026 World Cup Quarter-Final Report
Jude Bellingham dragged England into the World Cup semi-finals with both goals in a 2-1 extra-time win over Norway at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Saturday 11 July 2026. It was the twelfth meeting between the sides, the first ever at a World Cup finals, and comfortably the most dramatic.
Norway, in their first World Cup quarter-final, struck first through a brilliant Andreas Schjelderup effort on 36 minutes. Bellingham levelled in first-half stoppage time, slicing through the Norwegian defence to make it 1-1 at the break, and after a goalless second half that included a Torbjorn Heggem goal for Norway ruled out and a VAR-overturned England penalty, the tie went to extra time.
Three minutes into the additional period, Orjan Nyland spilled a Morgan Rogers shot and Bellingham pounced on the rebound for his sixth goal of the tournament. Erling Haaland, whose double had knocked out Brazil in the last 16, was kept quiet by Marc Guehi and John Stones, and substitute Dan Burn headed away a late Norwegian cross to seal England's place in the last four.
