Paolo Di Canio – Italy’s All-Time Premier League Top Scorer

Paolo Di Canio is the all-time leading Italian goalscorer in Premier League history with 66 goals. The attacking forward scored for Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham United and Charlton Athletic and remains the only Italian player to have surpassed 60 Premier League goals.

Di Canio’s Premier League career produced 190 appearances and 66 goals. His most productive spell came at West Ham United, where he became one of the club’s most recognisable players of the Premier League era.

Gianfranco Zola – Chelsea Legend

Gianfranco Zola ranks second among Italian Premier League goalscorers with 59 goals. The Chelsea forward made 229 Premier League appearances and became one of the most influential Italian players in the competition’s history.

Zola scored 59 Premier League goals for Chelsea and also provided 42 assists. His technical ability, close control and creativity made him a key figure during Chelsea’s rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Benito Carbone and Fabrizio Ravanelli

Benito Carbone is third on the Italian goalscoring list with 35 Premier League goals. He played for five Premier League clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Bradford City, Derby County and Middlesbrough.

Fabrizio Ravanelli follows with 25 goals. The striker made an immediate impact after joining Middlesbrough in 1996, scoring a hat-trick against Liverpool on the opening weekend of the 1996/97 Premier League season.

Graziano Pellè, Mario Balotelli, Jorginho and Gianluca Vialli

Graziano Pellè ranks fifth with 23 Premier League goals, all scored for Southampton. He is followed by a three-way tie on 21 goals between Mario Balotelli, Jorginho and Gianluca Vialli.

Balotelli scored 21 Premier League goals for Manchester City and Liverpool, while Jorginho reached the same total during his time with Chelsea and Arsenal. Vialli scored 21 goals for Chelsea during his playing career in England.

Massimo Maccarone and Francesco Baiano

Massimo Maccarone scored 18 Premier League goals for Middlesbrough, placing him ninth among Italian goalscorers. He is followed by Francesco Baiano and Fabio Borini, who both scored 16.

Roberto Di Matteo scored 15 Premier League goals for Chelsea, while Manolo Gabbiadini scored 10 during his spell with Southampton.

Italian Players with Eight or Fewer Premier League Goals

The next group includes several Italian players who made their mark at Premier League clubs. Gianluca Festa and Angelo Ogbonna both scored eight goals, while Alessandro Diamanti, Stefano Eranio and Stefano Okaka each scored seven.

Samuele Dalla Bona scored six Premier League goals, while Attilio Lombardo finished with five. Rolando Bianchi, David Di Michele, Emanuele Giaccherini and Federico Macheda each scored four.

Michael Kayode Joins the Top 30

Michael Kayode has now moved into the top 30 Italian Premier League goalscorers with two goals. The Brentford defender scored once in 2025/26 and added another goal at the beginning of the 2026/27 campaign.

Kayode’s arrival in the top 30 means the ranking continues to evolve even though the leading positions remain dominated by players from previous Premier League generations.

The First Italian Premier League Players

Italian players arrived in the Premier League during the competition’s early years, with Andrea Silenzi becoming the first Italian to play in the Premier League when he appeared for Nottingham Forest in August 1995.

Fabrizio Ravanelli then made history on the opening weekend of the 1996/97 season by scoring a hat-trick for Middlesbrough against Liverpool. Gianfranco Zola and Paolo Di Canio subsequently became two of the most successful Italian players in Premier League history.
