Liverpool come from level pegging to beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park

Mac Allister, Wirtz and Isak scored for Liverpool at Selhurst Park, and Eddie Nketiah's stoppage-time penalty could not save bottom-three Crystal Palace.

Liverpool come from level pegging to beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park

Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday, scoring once before the break, once after it and again in the final minutes to take the points in Gameweek 10 of the Premier League.

The goals that decided it

Alexis Mac Allister gave Liverpool the lead on 40 minutes, with Dominik Szoboszlai credited with the assist. Florian Wirtz doubled the advantage on 54, set up by Bradley Barcola.

Palace stayed in range until the 89th minute, when Alexander Isak made it 3-0 from a Wirtz assist. Wirtz therefore had a hand in two of the three goals.

Eddie Nketiah won Palace a consolation with a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time (90+5), but it came too late to change the outcome.

What the numbers say

The raw numbers were far closer than the scoreline. Liverpool had 20 shots to Palace's 19, and eight on target to Palace's seven. Palace also had the larger share of the ball, with 53% possession to Liverpool's 47%.

Liverpool won more corners, seven to four. They also committed more fouls, 18 to 10, and collected more bookings. Ronald Araújo, Barcola, Víctor Muñoz and Mac Allister were all cautioned for the visitors, while Yéremy Pino and Jefferson Lerma were booked for Palace.

Both sides had shots blocked, five for Palace and four for Liverpool. Palace's seven shots off target matched their seven on target.

Season expected goals data via Fantasy Premier League, which measures the quality of chances created, tells a similar story over the longer run. Liverpool average 1.47 xG for and 1.17 against per game. Palace sit at 1.24 for and 2.15 against.

What it means

Palace came into the game with one win in their last five, a 3-1 home victory over Nottingham Forest, after defeats at Tottenham, Brighton and at home to Newcastle. They had won three of the last six meetings with Liverpool, but the most recent, in April 2026, went to the visitors 3-1.

In the table, Liverpool are fourth with 18 points from 10 games, having won five. Arsenal lead on 27.

Palace are 19th with seven points from 10, and a goal difference of -14. They are two points clear of Sunderland, who are 20th on five points and have played nine.

Palace have scored one goal a game this season and conceded 2.4. Liverpool average 1.4 scored and one conceded, and have four clean sheets to Palace's one.

MFF's match model had predicted a 1-0 Liverpool win, giving the visitors a 53% chance, with 23% for a Palace win and 24% for a draw. It had the winner right, but not the scoreline.
