Lens 1-9 Como: Douvikas hat-trick as Italian side run riot in France

Como won 9-1 at Lens on league phase matchday 4 of the Champions League. Anastasios Douvikas scored a hat-trick, and seven different players got on the scoresheet at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Wednesday night.

Como in front by the 7th minute

Douvikas opened the scoring after seven minutes, set up by Máximo Perrone. He made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute from an Álex Valle assist. Nico Paz added a third in the 40th, with Douvikas providing the pass.

Lens did not recover after the break. Lucas Da Cunha scored in the 47th minute from a Paz assist, and Marc-Oliver Kempf made it 5-0 in the 53rd, set up by Luis Milla. Douvikas completed his hat-trick in the 57th, again assisted by Paz. Mattia Liberali scored in the 62nd, with Jacobo Ramón creating it.

That was four goals between the 47th and 62nd minutes, and a 7-0 lead.

Ruben Aguilar pulled one back for Lens in the 65th minute, from a Florian Thauvin assist. Como then added two more. Martin Baturina scored in the 69th, set up by Liberali, and Matteo Papaccioli scored in the first minute of stoppage time, again from a Liberali pass. Baturina, Liberali and Papaccioli were not in the starting line-up.

Lens had two players booked, Samson Baidoo in the 34th minute and Michaël Cuisance in the 75th.

What the numbers say

Como had 57% of possession to Lens's 43%. They had 18 shots to 11, and the gap in accuracy was bigger. Como put 12 on target and Lens three. Como had five shots off target and one blocked. Lens had six off target and two blocked.

Other numbers were close. Both sides won five corners, and fouls were 12 for Lens and 11 for Como.

Paz had a hand in three goals, with one goal and two assists. Douvikas added an assist to his three goals. Liberali had two assists as well as his goal.

Como now average 4.75 goals per game in the league phase. Lens average one goal per game and concede four. Neither side has kept a clean sheet.

What it means in the table

Como are fourth with nine points from four games. They have won three, and their goal difference is +13. That is inside the top eight, who go straight through to the round of 16. PSG lead with 12 points from four wins.

Lens are 33rd with three points and a goal difference of -12. They have one win from four. Only Slovan Bratislava are below them in the places listed, in 36th with no points and a goal difference of -16. Ninth to 24th go into the knockout play-offs, and Lens are well short of that range.

MFF's match model had Como winning 2-1, with a 51% chance of an away win, against 28% for a Lens win and 21% for a draw. It had the winner right but the scoreline was a long way out.
