Galatasaray won their first league-phase away game of the Champions League season, beating Lille 4-2 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday. They scored three times between the 44th and 61st minutes to turn the match around.
Lille have now lost all three of their matches in the competition.
How the goals came
Galatasaray were ahead after two minutes through Yunus Akgün. Lille levelled in the 7th minute, when Soriba Diaoune scored from an Alexsandro assist.
Diaoune struck again in the 39th minute, this time set up by Hákon Arnar Haraldsson, to put the hosts 2-1 up.
The lead lasted five minutes. Aleksey Batrakov equalised in the 44th minute with Roland Sallai providing the assist, and Galatasaray went into the break level.
Lucas Torreira put them in front in the 52nd minute from a Gabriel Sara assist. Victor Osimhen added the fourth in the 61st minute, with Barış Alper Yılmaz setting him up.
Lille collected three yellow cards, for Nabil Bentaleb (21st minute), Benjamin André (59th) and Gaëtan Perrin (89th). Ismail Jakobs, booked in the 85th minute, was the only Galatasaray player cautioned.
What the numbers say
No team statistics for the match are available, but the season figures tell the story. Neither side has kept a clean sheet in the competition. Lille now average 3.33 goals conceded per game and Galatasaray three.
Lille have scored four goals in three games, an average of 1.33. Galatasaray average two per game after scoring four in this match.
Both teams arrived on the back of two defeats. Lille had lost 3-2 to Betis and 3-0 at Arsenal. Galatasaray had lost 3-1 at Sporting and 4-1 at home to Barcelona.
What it means in the table
Galatasaray have three points from three games, with one win and a goal difference of minus three. That puts them 24th in the league-phase table. The top eight go straight through to the last 16, and ninth to 24th enter the knockout play-offs, so Galatasaray currently occupy the final play-off place.
Lille are 35th with no points and a goal difference of minus six. Only Slovan Bratislava, 36th with the same points total and a goal difference of minus 12, are below them. PSG lead the table with nine points from nine and a goal difference of plus nine.
MFF's match model had predicted a 1-0 away win, Lille 0-1 Galatasaray, giving Galatasaray a 39% chance of victory, Lille 36% and a draw 26%. It had the winner right, but the scoreline was wrong.
