Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0 at Dean Court on Saturday, with Evanilson's goal on 31 minutes and Amine Adli's strike deep into stoppage time deciding Premier League gameweek 9.
Leeds had more of the ball but managed one shot on target all afternoon.
The decisive moments
Evanilson broke the deadlock on 31 minutes, set up by Justin Kluivert. It was the only goal for almost an hour of play after the break, during which the match turned scrappy.
Four yellow cards were shown, two to each side. Nico Elvedi (35 minutes) and Ethan Ampadu (62) were booked for Leeds. Ryan Christie (45+2) and Adam Smith (74) were booked for Bournemouth.
The points were secured in the 90+5th minute. Adli, who was not in the starting line-up, scored from a Junior Kroupi assist to make it 2-0.
What the numbers say
Leeds finished with 56% possession to Bournemouth's 44%, and the shot totals were close: 11 for the home side and 10 for the visitors.
The quality of those shots was very different. Bournemouth put five of their 11 efforts on target. Leeds hit the target once from their 10, with seven shots off target and two blocked.
- Shots on target: Bournemouth 5, Leeds 1
- Shots off target: Bournemouth 3, Leeds 7
- Blocked shots: Bournemouth 3, Leeds 2
- Corners: 4 each
- Fouls: Bournemouth 12, Leeds 15
Bournemouth had the sharper finishing, and Leeds were left with plenty of the ball but little to show for it.
What it means
Bournemouth are seventh in the table with 12 points from nine games, with three wins and a goal difference of +1. Leeds are ninth on 11 points, with two wins and the same goal difference, after nine games.
Before kick-off, Bournemouth's last five league matches had brought two wins, one draw and two defeats. Leeds had won one, drawn three and lost one. Leeds had conceded 0.89 goals per game this season to Bournemouth's 1.44, and both sides had three clean sheets.
This was also Bournemouth's first win in the four most recent meetings between the clubs. The previous two, in September 2025 and April 2026, were both 2-2 draws. Before them, Bournemouth won 4-1 in April 2023 and Leeds won 4-3 in November 2022.
MFF's match model had forecast a 1-0 Bournemouth win, giving the home side a 41% chance, with 27% for a draw and 32% for a Leeds win. Bournemouth did win, but the scoreline was not what the model expected.
