Bobb settles it ten minutes from time

Fulham won 1-0 at Coventry City on Saturday afternoon, with Oscar Bobb scoring the only goal in the 80th minute.

Josh King provided the assist in this Premier League gameweek 8 fixture at the Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS Arena). It was the first time in the match that either side had made the scoreboard move.

Bobb's goal came after a long wait. FPL's figures show he went into the game with 1.28 expected goals (xG, the quality of chances created) and no goals, so the finish ended a gap between chance and return.

The only bookings were Fulham's. Shea Charles was cautioned in the 36th minute and Antonee Robinson in the 82nd, two minutes after Bobb scored.

What the numbers say

Fulham had the ball for most of the afternoon, with 64% possession to Coventry's 36%. They also won the corner count 6-4.

The shot count was close, though. Coventry had 13 attempts to Fulham's 12, but only two were on target. Eight went off target and three were blocked. Fulham put four of their 12 shots on target, with four off target and four blocked.

  • Shots on target: Coventry 2, Fulham 4
  • Fouls: Coventry 9, Fulham 11
  • Offsides: Coventry 1, Fulham 3

Season-long expected goals data via Fantasy Premier League points the same way. Before this game Fulham were averaging 1.57 xG per game and conceding 1.49, while Coventry were at 1.03 for and 1.62 against, across seven games with data.

What it means in the table

Fulham move to 12th with eight points from eight games and a goal difference of minus two. They have won two league games this season and kept three clean sheets.

Coventry stay 19th on six points, with a goal difference of minus nine. They average 0.75 goals per game and concede 1.88, and this was only their second clean sheet against them in the sense of a blank for the scoring column: they have now failed to score in their last two league games after losses at Manchester City and against Brighton.

Sunderland are 20th on four points, two behind Coventry, having played seven games. Manchester City lead the table on 21 points.

Fulham's win also ended a short run of defeats in this fixture. Coventry won both of the sides' most recent meetings, 4-1 at home in October 2021 and 3-1 at Fulham in April 2022.
