‘Unbelievable’ – De Bruyne bids farewell to Man City after Napoli move

By Martin Graham

Kevin De Bruyne has officially ended his long-term association with Manchester City following confirmation of his transfer to Napoli. The Belgian midfielder had spent ten years at the Etihad Stadium, becoming one of the club’s most influential figures during a highly successful period.

His exit comes after City reportedly chose not to extend his contract, a decision that left the 32-year-old disappointed. Despite interest from other sides, including a rumored switch to Liverpool and a potential move to Major League Soccer, it was Napoli who successfully secured his services.

The Italian club made a concerted effort to land De Bruyne, who shares a personal connection with the City, having celebrated his wedding there in 2017. The move marks a fresh chapter in his career while Manchester City continues its squad restructuring.

A legacy shaped by commitment and connection

During a farewell tribute, De Bruyne shared emotional reflections on his time in Manchester, describing the journey as extraordinary. “It’s been unbelievable to have the 10 years that I had with everything that happened here. It’s been an unbelievable ride and an absolute pleasure,” he said.

He highlighted the sense of pride he felt in contributing to the club’s success, emphasizing the collective effort. “It was a joy working really hard to try and help create something that brought the club the success we enjoyed. I’m super proud to have played a part in that.”

De Bruyne also acknowledged how the city became a true home for him and his loved ones. He expressed appreciation for the support received both professionally and personally, crediting those around him for helping him grow as a player.

Gratitude and farewell to City supporters

The midfielder reserved special thanks for the club’s supporters, who embraced him from the beginning. “Everybody pushed me so hard inside and outside the club to be the best version of myself. They made me so much better than I was before,” he stated.

He recalled the atmosphere at home matches and the way fans supported his family as well, calling that experience “indescribable.”

Concluding his remarks, De Bruyne offered a simple but heartfelt message to those who had stood by him throughout the years: “Thank you very much.”

De Bruyne’s contributions will be honored with a statue at the Etihad, commemorating a decade of influence, leadership, and memorable moments.
