Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the acquisition of Kingsley Coman, the France international and Bayern Munich forward, on a loan deal. However, they face stiff competition from Barcelona, who are also keen on securing the services of the 28-year-old.
Coman initially joined Bayern Munich from Juventus in 2017 following a two-year loan spell at the German club. Since then, he has featured in nearly 300 matches for the Bundesliga giants, netting 63 goals and providing 66 assists. Among his standout performances was a crucial display against Manchester United in last season’s Champions League, where he played a pivotal role.
Coman boasts an impressive trophy cabinet, having won the Champions League, Club World Cup, and 26 domestic titles during his stints with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Bayern Munich. Despite his decorated career, Coman has been plagued by injuries, limiting his impact on the pitch. Last season, he was restricted to just 17 league appearances, and notably, he has not completed a full 90 minutes in a match since November 2023.
Coman is said to be eager to move to Arsenal this summer but seeks assurances regarding his playing time at the Emirates. This development comes shortly after Coman turned down an offer from Turkish club Fenerbahçe. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on bringing in an experienced player to complement the youthful squad at the club, and Bayern Munich has given the green light for Arsenal to enter negotiations.
Despite Arsenal’s strong interest, securing Coman’s signature will not be straightforward. Bayern Munich is demanding between €30 million and €40 million (approximately £25.6 million to £34.2 million) as a loan fee, with an option to buy included in the deal. Coman’s availability has sparked interest from several top European clubs, including his former team PSG and Barcelona.
Barcelona, in particular, are closely monitoring Coman as they seek to strengthen their attacking options, especially with the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Nico Williams. While Coman is reportedly more inclined towards a move to either the Premier League or La Liga, with Arsenal being his preferred destination, Arteta will need to move quickly to fend off interest from the Catalan giants and secure the deal.
