Tottenham Hotspur have bolstered their attacking options with the acquisition of Wilson Odobert from Burnley, with the young French winger agreeing to a five-year contract. The move to north London comes after the 19-year-old featured and found the back of the net in Burnley’s opening Championship match of the season – a commanding 4-1 victory over Luton Town.
According to reports from Le Parisien, the deal for the teenage talent could reach up to €37 million. Odobert’s arrival follows Spurs’ earlier transfer window spending, including a club-record signing of striker Dominic Solanke. The Frenchman is expected to don the number 28 shirt for Tottenham, adding to their growing list of summer recruits, which also includes Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.
Odobert’s journey to Tottenham began in the Paris Saint-Germain academy, where he honed his skills before moving to Troyes in 2022. During his time with the Ligue 1 side, he netted four goals across 32 league appearances. His next step was a transfer to Burnley, where he quickly made history by becoming the club’s youngest Premier League goalscorer, with a memorable goal against Chelsea in October 2023. He wrapped up his time at Burnley with four goals in all competitions.
In Burnley’s recent clash with Luton Town, Odobert contributed to his side’s dominant performance by scoring their second goal. The young attacker latched onto a precise pass from teammate Connor Roberts before calmly slotting his shot past goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, solidifying his reputation as a promising goal threat.
Odobert has also made his mark on the international stage. He represented several of France’s youth teams and even featured in Thierry Henry’s preliminary squad for the Olympic Games. Although he did not make the final selection, Odobert made an impression by scoring in a friendly victory against the Ivory Coast. France ultimately took home the silver medal after falling to Spain 5-3 in the Olympic final, decided in extra time.
Tottenham have been actively seeking to strengthen Spur’s squad ahead of the upcoming season, particularly in the wide attacking areas. The club had been linked with several potential signings, including Pedro Neto, Eberechi Eze, and Desire Doue. However, they ultimately turned their attention to Odobert, whose performances for Burnley and France’s youth teams caught the eye of Spurs’ recruitment team.
Although the deal is yet to be fully completed and remains ‘subject to formalities,’ Tottenham are optimistic that the young winger will soon be available for selection. However, his involvement in their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Monday remains uncertain. Spurs fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation of the transfer as Odobert prepares to begin the next chapter of his career in north London football club.
