Germany’s national football team, under the guidance of Julian Nagelsmann, has been showcasing promising performances as they gear up for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. Victories over France and the Netherlands in recent international friendlies have provided a positive momentum for the four-time world champions as they head into the home European Championships.
Following a 2-0 win away to France and a 2-1 victory at home against the Netherlands, Nagelsmann expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress. In an interview after the match against the Dutch, Nagelsmann hinted at the near completion of Germany’s squad for the summer tournament.
“There’s no question: If everyone stays healthy and continues to perform, we definitely won’t swap ten players in the summer. Actually, not five; maybe one or two – plus injured ones,” stated Nagelsmann, indicating minimal changes to the squad composition.
Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané has secured his place in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad, confirmed by Nagelsmann. Despite being suspended for the recent friendlies, Sané’s experience and talent make him an indispensable asset for the team.
“He is exceptionally good. He knows what it means to play in a home European Championship. He has to integrate himself into this functioning group. I am convinced that Leroy puts his qualities 100 percent at the service of the team. And we won’t miss out on that under any circumstances if he’s healthy,” Nagelsmann remarked, emphasizing Sané’s importance.
While Sané’s inclusion is confirmed, uncertainty looms over several other players from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck, Julian Brandt, and Niklas Süle are among those who may miss out on the final squad due to recent poor form.
Nagelsmann stressed that players omitted from the current squad still have an opportunity to earn their place through improved performance. Despite facing exclusion, the door remains open for those willing to demonstrate their capabilities and commitment to the team.
“The message to these players is that we have done well now, and they have to give it their all to get on the bandwagon. In the end, they have to be better than anyone else who is there now, in whatever role. That is sure,” Nagelsmann affirmed, highlighting the competitive nature of selection for the tournament squad.
Despite initial doubts, Germany’s resurgence under Nagelsmann has ignited optimism among fans, with hopes of clinching silverware at Euro 2024 growing steadily. As the final squad takes shape, anticipation builds for a memorable campaign on home soil.
