All-Time England Hat-Tricks: Every Treble Scored and Conceded, 1882 to 2026
England have scored 91 hat-tricks and conceded 11 in senior international football, a record that stretches from Howard Vaughton's five goals against Ireland in February 1882 to Bukayo Saka's treble against France at the 2026 World Cup. The tables below list every one of them, with the date, goalscorer, opponent, venue, competition and final score.
The most recent addition came on 18 July 2026, when Saka scored three in England's 6-4 win over France in the third-place play-off at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, the fixture previewed in full on our England v France third-place play-off page. It was the first England hat-trick scored in a play-off for third place and Saka's second for his country in three years.
Data compiled and maintained by Paul Yarden. A hat-trick is counted as three or more goals scored by the same player in a single senior international match.

England Hat-Trick Records and Milestones
Who has scored the most hat-tricks for England?
Jimmy Greaves holds the record with six, all of them scored in a remarkable seven-year spell between 1960 and 1966 against Luxembourg, Scotland, Peru, Northern Ireland twice and Norway. Gary Lineker and Harry Kane are next on five apiece, with Bobby Charlton and Vivian Woodward on four. Only nine players in England's history have scored more than one.
The biggest individual hauls
Four England players have scored five in a single international. Howard Vaughton set the mark against Ireland in Belfast in 1882, in the 13-0 win that remains England's record victory, and Steve Bloomer matched it in a 9-1 win over Wales in Cardiff in 1896. Willie Hall added a third against Ireland at Old Trafford in 1938, in a burst widely recorded as the fastest hat-trick in England's history, and Malcolm Macdonald became the most recent when he scored all five in a 5-0 win over Cyprus at Wembley in 1975. No England player has scored five since.
England hat-tricks at the World Cup
Only four England hat-tricks have been scored at a World Cup finals tournament, and the first is the most famous in the game. Geoff Hurst's treble against West Germany at Wembley on 30 July 1966 remains the only hat-trick scored in a men's World Cup final. Lineker followed with three against Poland in Monterrey in 1986, Kane scored three against Panama in Nizhny Novgorod in 2018, and Saka added the fourth against France in Miami Gardens in 2026.
Which opponents have conceded most often?
The early decades of the fixture list explain most of the numbers. Ireland conceded 18 England hat-tricks and Wales 10, the great majority of them in British Home Championship matches before the Second World War, when scorelines of 6-1 and 9-1 were commonplace. Luxembourg, Portugal, Austria and Hungary each appear multiple times, and the United States conceded two in the same 10-0 friendly in New York in May 1964, to Roger Hunt and Fred Pickering.
Hat-tricks conceded by England
England have conceded only 11 hat-tricks in more than 150 years, and five of those came against Scotland between 1878 and 1928. The most damaging was Nandor Hidegkuti's three in Hungary's 6-3 win at Wembley in 1953, the result that ended England's unbeaten home record against continental opposition. Marco van Basten's treble in the 1988 European Championship is the only one conceded at a major tournament, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's four in Solna in November 2012 is both the largest haul conceded and the most recent. No opponent has scored a hat-trick against England since.
