Inter Milan secured a crucial victory over Venezia at San Siro, moving up to second place in Serie A. Lautaro Martinez provided the winning goal in the 65th minute, diving to head in a precise cross from Federico Dimarco on the left flank. This breakthrough proved enough to clinch the three points in a tightly contested encounter.

Inter had thought they had taken the lead earlier in the second half when Henrikh Mkhitaryan found the back of the net, only for his goal to be disallowed after a VAR review confirmed an offside. Despite the setback, Inter continued to press, seeking the decisive moment that eventually came through Martinez.

The closing minutes delivered significant drama as Venezia appeared to have secured a last-gasp equaliser in the seventh minute of injury time. Marin Sverko’s effort had fans celebrating until the goal was overturned for a handball after an extended VAR check. This decision preserved Inter’s lead and left Venezia without the crucial point they were hoping for in their relegation battle.

Hakan Calhanoglu nearly doubled Inter’s lead with a long-range effort late in the game, but visiting goalkeeper Filip Stankovic produced an impressive save to deny him.

With this victory, Inter Milan moved just one point behind Serie A leaders Napoli, who they are set to host in their next league fixture on Sunday, 10 November. Meanwhile, Venezia remain in the relegation zone, sitting in 18th place.

Inter face another major test this week as they prepare to take on Arsenal in the Champions League at San Siro. Both teams have been strong in the competition so far, each having claimed two wins and a draw from their opening three group-stage matches.
