Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has agreed in principle to become the new coach of Bayern Munich. The German club pursued Kompany after encountering several rejections in their quest to find a replacement for Thomas Tuchel. Kompany is set to sign a deal until 2027, with Bayern paying Burnley £10.2 million in compensation.

While Kompany will make the move to the Allianz Arena, his assistant at Burnley, Craig Bellamy, will not be joining him. Instead, Floribert Ngalula and Bram Geers will be part of Kompany’s backroom staff in Munich. This transition comes after Bayern’s unsuccessful attempts to secure Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, former manager Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria coach Ralf Rangnick, all of whom turned down the opportunity.

Vincent Kompany, a four-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, has developed a respectable managerial reputation during his tenures at Anderlecht and Burnley. He began his coaching career as player-manager at Anderlecht in 2020, before fully transitioning to head coach. Kompany later moved to Turf Moor, where he led Burnley to win the Championship title in 2023. Despite this success, Burnley faced relegation from the Premier League this season.

Bayern Munich’s decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel led them on a search for a German-speaking coach, an important criterion given the club’s needs. Kompany fits this requirement, having played for Hamburg for two years during his career. Tuchel had discussions with Bayern earlier in May regarding his potential continuation at the club, but these talks did not result in an agreement.

With Kompany at the helm, Bayern Munich aims to rejuvenate their squad and achieve new heights. His contract until 2027 signifies the club’s long-term commitment to his vision and leadership. The coming seasons will reveal how Kompany’s influence will shape Bayern Munich’s performance on both domestic and international stages.
