AS Roma have dismissed manager Daniele De Rossi just four games into the current Serie A campaign. De Rossi, who succeeded José Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico in January, has struggled to secure a win this season. The team has drawn three matches and suffered a home defeat against Empoli last month. Currently sitting in 16th place, Roma managed only a 1-1 draw against Genoa on Sunday.

De Rossi’s initial months at Roma were impressive. In his first 11 league games, the team suffered just one defeat, securing 26 points from a possible 33. That remarkable run lifted Roma from ninth to fifth in the standings. They also made a deep run in the Europa League, reaching the semi-finals before being knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite a strong finish last season, where Roma ended in sixth place and qualified for the Europa League once again, their form has dipped this season, leading to the decision to part ways with the former captain.

Roma were active in the transfer market during the summer window, bringing in notable additions. Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk, who was the top scorer in La Liga last season with Girona, joined the squad. The club also signed veteran German defender Mats Hummels on a free transfer.

However, there were several key departures. Chris Smalling, previously with Manchester United, left for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Fayha, while Tammy Abraham moved to AC Milan on loan. Romelu Lukaku, after a loan spell from Chelsea, opted to join Napoli. Other players leaving the club included Andrea Belotti, who joined Como, Rui Patricio to Atalanta, and Leonardo Spinazzola, who also signed for Napoli.
