Marco Asensio has denied reports of an interest in a move to Barcelona when his contract expires. The winger is in the final year of his contract with Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have struggled to offload some players that have not pulled their weight in recent seasons. Players like Mariano Diaz have occupied space in the squad without delivering the goods. The Spanish giants want to keep only dependable players.
The club won the UEFA Champions League for the 14th time last season but saw a few players leave the club. Gareth Bale, Isco and Casemiro were among the players that left Santiago Bernabeu. Other players on the transfer list could not find new clubs and will wind down their contracts.
Marco Asensio is one of the players having issues at the club. Real Madrid expected the winger to shine, but since the brilliant start to his Los Blancos career, things have gone downhill for him. Asensio is battling for his Real Madrid career, hoping to secure a new contract.
Asensio is not interested in a move to Barcelona
Rumours have continued to swirl around the Real Madrid future of Marco Asensio. The winger seems to be surplus to requirement at the club and seeking to sort things out. Reports are suggesting an interest in the winger by Barcelona. They are given weight by Asensio being in the final year of his Real Madrid contract and also that the player has not received an offer for a new deal.
There were discussions with the club over his future, but things have petered out due to his wage demands. As it stands, Real Madrid might let the player leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on the former RCD Mallorca winger as they see him as a solid market opportunity.
However, Asensio has claimed he is happy at Real Madrid and said he is not considering any move to Barcelona in the future.
Denying interest in Barcelona
According to Fabrizio Romano on El Chiringuito TV, Asensio said he is happy at Real Madrid and feels well, but in the future, you never know. He continued that Barcelona was never an option, and he is not considering a future move to the Nou Camp.
In hindsight, Barcelona are well-stocked in attack. Though, the possible arrival of Marco Asensio would boost the squad. They also have Ez Abde, who would add more depth to the club after his return from loan at Osasuna.
Despite Barcelona expecting Memphis Depay to leave the club soon, there is no urgency for another winger.
Barcelona should not prioritise Marco Asensio, as they seem well-stocked on the wings. Barcelona should be looking for a backup for Robert Lewandowski, the only No. 9 at the club. Los Blaugrana also have Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko in their sights. He would be a perfect understudy for Lewandowski.
