Liverpool hammered Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield to get their Premier League campaign back on track. Mohamed Salah failed to score in the victory that takes the Reds to eight on the table behind Manchester United.

Liverpool started the season on a dour note, securing two draws and a loss to Manchester United. However, the Anfield side made a loud statement on Saturday with a massive victory over Bournemouth.

Liverpool may have gotten their Premier Campaign back on track. The Reds have not been at their imperial best this season. It has been arduous to break down opponents leading to two draws and a loss in their first three games.

Doubts had begun to arise over the season Liverpool will have, with their strikers failing to find their range. Several injuries have hampered the Reds, and even Klopp confessed the need for another midfielder.

On Saturday, the Reds were in full steam as they decimated Bournemouth by a record-equalling 9-0 win.

Liverpool equal Premier League record winning scoreline

With the World Cup on the horizon, the Premier League season will be jam-packed. The matches will come thick and fast, and it is pertinent that Liverpool starts racking up the points.

The disappointment of their first three matches was in the air as they took on Bournemouth, who are not a Premier League force. Despite coming up against the newly-promoted side, Liverpool needed to dispel some doubts.

Liverpool were in majestic form against Bournemouth. The Reds strolled to a super-comfortable win over the Cherries. With several of their players bar Salah getting on the scoreline, Liverpool thumped Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield to equal the record of the highest winning scoreline in the Premier League. The win was the first for Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

The Reds hit the back of the net twice in the first six minutes of the game, setting the tone for a long afternoon for AFC Bournemouth. Luis Diaz struck first, connecting with a header to a Roberto Firmino cross. Harvey Elliot got in on the act soon after the first goal with a first-time effort from the edge of the box.

Trent-Alexander Arnold made it three with a rasping shot from a distance that hit the roof of the net. Other players who scored under the Anfield sun are Roberto Firmino, who scored the fourth, and Virgil van Dijk with the fifth. Fabio Carvalho got his first Liverpool goal with a fine finish off Kostas Tsimikas’ lay-off.

Beautiful win despite injuries

There were notable absences for Liverpool that forced Jurgen Klopp to make just one change against Bournemouth.

Fabinho returned to the line-up to replace James Milner. Liverpool started the game with Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez and Van Dijk. Robertson and Henderson maintained their spots. The others in the starting line-up were Henderson, Elliott, Diaz, Mo Salah and Firmino.

Anfield was in full voice on Saturday afternoon. They forgot the pain of the past couple of weeks with the joy of a resounding victory. It was a healthy response to a slow start to the season, especially the loss to arch-rivals Manchester united.

Liverpool will hope to continue in this vein as they pursue a second Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool next plays Newcastle United on Wednesday night at Anfield. The Magpies are yet to lose a game this season.
