Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Milos Kerkez, who becomes their latest addition in what has already been a hectic transfer window. The Hungary international joins from Bournemouth, where he spent the past season, and arrives following a reported £40 million move – making him the most expensive fullback in the club’s history.

The 21-year-old touched down in the United Kingdom on Monday, flying in from Belgrade to undergo medical examinations ahead of the announcement. Kerkez becomes Liverpool’s fourth summer acquisition, joining Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, both signed from Bayer Leverkusen, and Ármin Pécsi, another Hungarian who will bolster the goalkeeping department.

Speaking to the club’s media channels, Kerkez expressed his delight at joining the Anfield outfit. “It’s an honour, really – such a big moment for me,” he said. “I’m happy and proud. I’ll enjoy a short break back home, but I’m already looking forward to coming back, getting into training, and preparing for the campaign.”

Kerkez brings energy and end product to left flank

Kerkez arrives with a growing reputation after a strong season under Andoni Iraola on the south coast. Known for his relentless running and ability to thrive in high-pressing systems, he quickly became a key figure at Bournemouth, starting every league match in the 2024–25 campaign.

The young defender provided five assists over the course of the season – matching the tally of Liverpool attacker Luis Díaz – while showcasing improved decision-making in the final third. Iraola praised the fullback’s evolution, particularly his growing composure when delivering crosses from advanced areas.

“He’s developed a lot,” the Bournemouth head coach said. “Physically, he gets forward frequently and can keep the ball under control. Last year, the quality of his final pass wasn’t always there, but this season, he’s showing more calmness and accuracy when delivering.”

Competition on the left intensifies amid interest in Robertson

Kerkez’s arrival adds immediate pressure on Liverpool’s current left-back situation. Andy Robertson, who has publicly committed to staying and fighting for his place, is reportedly attracting attention from Atlético Madrid.

While Robertson’s future remains uncertain, Kerkez will aim to stake his claim during pre-season preparations. With his combination of stamina, physical strength, and improved crossing, he offers a new dynamic down the left flank – something Liverpool appear to have prioritised in this transfer window.
