Manchester United’s 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool was particularly difficult for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who was substituted at halftime and subsequently faced criticism from football pundits. There were rumors suggesting that Casemiro left Old Trafford at the break, but United manager Erik ten Hag dismissed these claims.

In response to the criticism, Casemiro’s wife, Anna Mariana, came to his defense on social media. She highlighted his remarkable career achievements by sharing an image of his extensive trophy collection, which includes five Champions League titles, three La Liga championships with Real Madrid, and a recent FA Cup victory with Manchester United. She followed up with a photo of Casemiro celebrating with his teammates, captioning it with words of encouragement: “Always strong Casemiro, the biggest,” accompanied by a flaming heart emoji.

During the first half of Sunday’s match, Casemiro made two crucial errors that contributed to Liverpool’s convincing victory. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, expressed concern over Casemiro’s current form, describing it as “a sad sight.” Gary Neville, a former Manchester United full-back, added that Casemiro seemed to have lost some of his confidence.

Casemiro was replaced at halftime by 20-year-old Toby Collyer, who made his debut for Manchester United. Explaining the substitution, Ten Hag stated that the team needed to take risks in order to stage a comeback, which required more mobility and energy in midfield. He chose to introduce Collyer to cover more ground. Ten Hag also addressed the broader concerns, asserting that every player must shoulder responsibility for their performances. He expressed his belief in Casemiro’s character, noting that despite this challenging period, the Brazilian’s winning mentality and experience would continue to benefit the team.
