Everton have completed the signing of Jake O’Brien from Lyon, securing the 23-year-old centre-back on a four-year deal valued at £16.4 million. The Republic of Ireland international made 27 appearances for the French club last season. His development included loan stints at Swindon Town and Belgian club RWD Molenbeek, leading to his transfer to Lyon for an undisclosed fee last summer.
The young defender was drawn to Everton by manager Sean Dyche’s track record of nurturing young talent, especially highlighting the progress of fellow centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.
