Chelsea continued their impressive run with a solid 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, bolstered by Cole Palmer’s sharp performance and Nicolas Jackson’s early opener. Palmer’s goal, his seventh this season, secured Chelsea’s climb to fourth place in the table.
Chelsea took an early lead in the 18th minute when Nicolas Jackson found the net after receiving a pinpoint pass from Pedro Neto. Jackson capitalized on a well-timed assist from Palmer, who set up the Blues’ attack. Newcastle found an answer 14 minutes later through Alexander Isak, who managed a close-range finish to level the score. Isak nearly bagged a second goal in the latter stages, evading Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez but ultimately unable to complete his move as Chelsea’s defense held firm.
Early in the second half, Palmer broke the deadlock with a clean shot from the edge of the area, slotting the ball past Nick Pope at his near post. Chelsea looked to extend their lead late in the game when Christopher Nkunku went down in the box, and the referee initially awarded a penalty. However, a video review overturned the decision, showing Nkunku had slipped before contact.
The win marks Chelsea’s fifth victory in nine games under manager Enzo Maresca, positioning the club as a strong contender in the top-four race. Chelsea has scored consistently this season, netting goals in each of their last 13 matches across all competitions and showing particular strength at home with 19 goals in seven games at Stamford Bridge. The club’s renewed offensive edge, led by the reliable scoring duo of Palmer and Jackson, has transformed Chelsea into a formidable attacking side, making them a difficult opponent for any defense.
Newcastle, on the other hand, extended their winless run to five games, now sitting 12th in the league.
