After Borussia Dortmund secured a thrilling 1-0 victory against PSG, man of the match Mats Hummels shared his insights on the win and looked forward to the upcoming Champions League final.

“We will – no matter against whom – we will meet a very strong opponent,” Hummels remarked, acknowledging the tough challenge ahead. “It will also be a fight with the atmosphere, with the meaning of the game. But we have already done well today.” He expressed confidence in Dortmund’s ability to compete at the highest level, stating, “Since the second game in the group stage, we believe that we can survive in the Champions League. There is no reason at all for us not to believe that we can also win the final.”

Reflecting on the crucial corner kick that led to Dortmund’s winning goal, Hummels revealed his strategic thinking, stating, “As he defended me at the corner before, I knew that I could somehow get the room. It worked wonderfully, Jule served the ball perfectly on my head.” The 35-year-old defender played a pivotal role in shutting out PSG alongside Nico Schlotterbeck, showcasing a dominant performance that earned him the title of man of the match. Hummels’ goal proved decisive in securing Dortmund’s passage to the final.

With his contract at Dortmund set to expire in the summer, a Champions League triumph could serve as the perfect send-off for Hummels, who has yet to clinch Europe’s premier competition. Having experienced defeat in the 2013 final against Bayern Munich alongside Marco Reus, a victory in the upcoming final would mark a significant milestone in his illustrious career.
