Manchester City snatched a dramatic win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with John Stones’ stoppage-time header securing a crucial three points. The late goal, awarded after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision, allowed City to remain in contention with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The late drama came after a hard-fought match, with Wolves putting up a strong defensive effort despite their struggles this season. Stones’ goal in the fifth minute of added time broke the hosts’ resilience, leading to disappointment at Molineux.

Wolves opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match with a well-executed attack. Nelson Semedo’s precise cross found Jorgen Strand Larsen, who slotted home to give the home side an unexpected lead. City, who had started strongly, found themselves behind despite dominating possession.

Though City pushed forward for an equalizer, Wolves’ goalkeeper Jose Sa, stepping in for the injured Sam Johnstone, made several crucial saves. Bernardo Silva was denied early on, but City eventually found their breakthrough when Josko Gvardiol’s powerful shot from 20 yards leveled the game in the 33rd minute.

Despite Gvardiol’s equalizer, Wolves continued to frustrate City, defending deep and limiting their space. Sa was called into action once again, making important stops to keep Ruben Dias and Savinho from scoring. However, City remained relentless, pushing for a winner until the very end.

Pep Guardiola introduced Phil Foden and Jack Grealish from the bench to add fresh energy, and it was Foden’s late corner that set up the winning moment. Stones rose to meet the cross and headed the ball into the net, sparking celebrations. Though Bernardo Silva initially appeared offside, referee Chris Kavanagh awarded the goal after consulting VAR, sealing a dramatic victory for the reigning champions.
