The upcoming season of UEFA club competitions heralds a new format, introducing two additional Champions League spots. These spots will be distributed based on the performance of clubs from each country in Europe. In essence, the more successful a country’s clubs are, the more points its association accumulates.

German clubs impress on European stage

German clubs have made significant strides on the European scene, enhancing Germany’s prospects of securing an additional Champions League spot. Victories by Bayern Munich over Lazio, SC Freiburg against West Ham, and a draw by RB Leipzig against Real Madrid have all contributed to Germany’s ascent in the rankings.

Borussia Dortmund’s commendable performance in the group stages, where they outperformed Newcastle, Milan, and PSG, has further bolstered Germany’s position. Dortmund’s potential advancement to the Quarter-finals, pending their match against PSV on March 13th, adds another layer of anticipation to Germany’s bid for additional spots.

Italy sustains strong performance in Europe

Meanwhile, Italy continues to maintain a strong presence in European competitions, solidifying its position in the rankings with a season rating of 16,571. With consistent performances from Italian clubs, the country is poised to secure an additional Champions League spot for the upcoming season.

As the competition heats up and clubs vie for coveted positions, the performances of Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and other European counterparts will ultimately determine the allocation of additional Champions League spots among football associations.
