The Under-21 Barclays Premier League Season 2013-14: A Season of Thrills and Skills

The 2013-14 season of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League was a thrilling spectacle of football, showcasing the future stars of the sport. This was the second season of the Under-21 Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), a system designed to bridge the gap between the Academy (U-18s) and the First Team. The season saw 22 clubs battling it out on the pitch, 16 from the Premier League and six from the Championship.

Format of the League

Each club in the league had the opportunity to play the other 21 clubs once, either at home or away. This format ensured a fair and balanced competition, providing each team with an equal chance to prove their mettle. The top four clubs at the end of the season progressed to the end-of-season Play-Offs, adding an extra layer of excitement and competition to the proceedings.

Divisional Changes

Following the conclusion of the season, the league underwent a divisional change. The top 11 clubs moved on to Division One for the 2014-15 season, while the remaining 12th to 22nd placed clubs found themselves in Division Two. This reshuffling of divisions added a new dynamic to the competition, as clubs strived to secure their place in the top division.
