Thiago Alcantara, known for his time at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool, has officially retired from professional football. His contract at Liverpool ended this summer, and despite offers from Saudi Arabian clubs, he decided to conclude his career at 33.

In a heartfelt message on social media, Thiago expressed, “I’ll forever be ready to give back what I’ve received and am thankful for the time I’ve had in football. Thank you, football, and to everyone who joined me on this journey and helped me grow as a player and person. Until next time, Thiago.”

Bayern Munich’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, paid tribute to the Spanish midfielder who played 235 matches for the club between 2013 and 2020. “Farewell Thiago, it was a privilege,” Dreesen remarked. “Thiago was integral to our squad for seven years, and he was with us when we last lifted the Champions League trophy in 2020.”

Dreesen referenced Pep Guardiola’s famous saying, ‘Thiago or nothing,’ and added, “Upon his retirement, FC Bayern declares: ‘Thiago can do it all’. Thanks for the incredible memories. We wish you the best for the future. You will always have a spot in our Legends team.”

Thiago began his professional journey at Barcelona, where he appeared in 100 games before moving to Bayern Munich. At Bayern, he became a pivotal figure over seven seasons. He later joined Liverpool, adding 98 appearances to his career tally.

His stint at Liverpool was marred by injuries, which hindered his ability to consistently contribute on the field. Despite these setbacks, his influence at all three clubs remains highly regarded by fans and peers.
