Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has affirmed that Jude Bellingham’s role at the club will remain the same, even after the arrival of Kylian Mbappe. The England midfielder, who excelled in an advanced position during his debut season, will continue to operate in that role, according to Ancelotti.
“Bellingham’s position will stay as it is. His first season was remarkable, demonstrating his exceptional abilities and maturity. The upcoming season will be no different for him,” Ancelotti stated. “He will remain one of our key players, significantly contributing to the team with his talents.”
Kylian Mbappe, the French striker, has joined Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. Despite this high-profile addition, Ancelotti has dismissed any notion of altering Bellingham’s position to accommodate Mbappe.
“Nothing changes for Jude. The first season, he surprised many with his fantastic quality and maturity. Next season will be the same,” Ancelotti emphasized.
Support for Bellingham amid criticism
Ancelotti has also shown support for Bellingham following critiques of his performances at Euro 2024, where England made it to the final. The manager defended his player, highlighting his strong showing in the tournament.
“Opinions vary, but Bellingham played very well at the Euros,” Ancelotti remarked. “England performed admirably, reaching the final and nearly clinching victory. Top players are accustomed to playing frequently and manage well, arriving at the end of the season in good condition.”
In addition to discussing his own team, Ancelotti offered advice to Chelsea’s owners regarding their managerial decisions. Since the change in ownership, Chelsea has seen the departure of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Mauricio Pochettino.
“They have invested significantly and possess a talented, young squad along with a young manager. The owners need to be patient to allow the team to gain experience and grow. Their signings have been very good,” Ancelotti suggested.
Addressing the goalkeeper situation, Ancelotti clarified that Real Madrid does not need to re-sign Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was on loan from Chelsea last season.
Real Madrid and Chelsea will conclude their US tours at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, with Ancelotti set to face compatriot Enzo Maresca.
