Euro 2024 will see some of the world’s leading strikers in action as they bid to score the goals needed to help their country succeed at the tournament.

Here is a look at who will be in contention for the Golden Boot award at the European Championship in Germany this summer.

Harry Kane (England)

Striker Harry Kane is going to feel at home in Germany this summer. The 30-year-old has scored 44 goals in all competitions in his debut season in the country for Bayern Munich after making his move to the German giants from Tottenham.

England, with Kane leading their forward line, are the 3/1 favourites in the Euros winner odds. They will be bidding to go one place better than they did at Euro 2020, as they finished runners-up in the last edition of the tournament, losing to Italy in the final at Wembley in London.

In the England odds to win Euro 2024, Gareth Southgate’s team sit above France and Germany, who are 7/2 and 4/1 respectively. The Three Lions may need Kane to produce his very best in big knockout matches against their rivals in the latter stages of the tournament if they are to lift the trophy in Berlin.

Kylian Mbappe (France)

France captain Kylian Mbappe has been the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 in each of the last six seasons. He recently bid farewell to PSG as he is set to sign for Real Madrid this summer as a free agent.

Mbappe was the Golden Boot winner at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He scored eight goals at the tournament, including a hat-trick in the final. He became the second player in history to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final. Unfortunately for Mbappe and France, they were beaten by Argentina in a penalty shoot-out.

The player scored 44 goals in 48 appearances last season in domestic football. Many pundits are expecting the former PSG star to have a big tournament as he bids to win a second major trophy with France.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

No player has scored more European Championship goals than Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward made his debut in the tournament in 2004, and since then he has scored 14 goals, five more than the next best Michel Platini.

Ronaldo is now at the back end of his career at the age of 39, and this is likely to be his final European Championship. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star played a big role in Portugal’s success in 2016 when they defeated hosts France in the final.

The Al Nassr player scored 43 goals in 44 games in the 2023/24 season in Saudi Arabia. He is set to be the leading forward in Roberto Martinez’s team in Germany, and with support from the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva, he is sure to get plenty of opportunities to score in the competition.

Euro 2024 begins on the 14th of June when the hosts Germany face Scotland in Group A. The tournament runs through to the final on the 14th of July.
