Barcelona has officially announced the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, marking a homecoming for the 26-year-old midfielder. The deal, which brings Olmo back to Camp Nou after years away, is valued at an initial €55 million, with an additional €7 million in potential add-ons. Olmo has committed to a six-year contract, featuring a €500 million release clause.

Olmo, who developed his skills in Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, never made a senior appearance for the club before departing in 2014 for Dinamo Zagreb in search of first-team opportunities. His journey has now come full circle, as he returns to his boyhood club following a successful stint in Germany with Leipzig, where he notched up 29 goals and 34 assists across 148 matches.

Despite having worn the number 7 at Leipzig and currently sporting the number 10 for Spain, Olmo appears poised to don the number 20 jersey at Barcelona. The number became available following Sergi Roberto’s exit earlier this summer. In a show of support, Olmo’s family was recently seen celebrating in Barcelona, wearing shirts emblazoned with his name and the number 20.

Olmo’s return to Barcelona has sparked enthusiasm among fans, and the club’s management seems equally motivated to further strengthen the squad. Reports indicate that Barcelona has not given up on the possibility of signing Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, with club president Joan Laporta reportedly taking a hands-on approach in the negotiations to bring the young winger to Camp Nou. Williams’ current contract includes a release clause of €58 million, and Barcelona is keen to explore this option before the transfer window closes.
