All of Canada were made to hold their collective breaths as star player Alfonso Davies had to be taken off on Saturday due to injury.

Davies was limping and holding the back of his leg as he was withdrawn in the 64th minute of Bayern Munich’s 3-2 win against Hertha Berlin. It does not look like a good sign for the player and his country as the World Cup is two weeks away.

The fullback seemed to have sustained the injury after an attempt to take the ball away from Hertha Berlin striker Mark Ritcher. He had to stop chase for the ball suddenly and indicated that he wouldn’t be able to continue the match.

Bayern head coach Julian Naglesmann was able to shed light on the type of injury he suffered but was unsure about the amount of time the left back will be out.

“According to the doc, it’s at least a fiber tear,” Nagelsmann revealed, “We’ll have to wait and see what info comes out tomorrow.”

The update that followed on Sunday turned out to be a positive one as the German Champions announced that the Canadian is still in contention to make it to Qatar but will miss the last two Bundesliga games before the World Cup.

“FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for the two remaining Bundesliga games prior to the winter break.

The 22-year-old full-back suffered a hamstring strain in the 3-2 win at Hertha BSC on Saturday. The diagnosis was confirmed by the German record champions’ medical unit. The Canada international’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar is not at risk.”

The 22 year old who is affectionately nicknamed by his teammates “The Bravarian Roadrunner” was instrumental in Canada’s dominant performances during their CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches where his nation topped the group. He had a total of 13 goal contributions (five goals and eight assists) in 13 games and was one of their leading scorers as well as their top assister.

They were able to make qualification for the World Cup official with a game to spare after a 4-0 win against Jamaica on March, 27th but he could not play due to a heart inflammation. However, that did not stop him from expressing his happiness as he could not hold back his tears during his twitch stream of the match. Davies said.

With the injury worry no longer an issue, all focus will be on recovery in order to be fit enough to play Canada’s warm up games against Bahrain and Japan on November 11th and 17th respectively before their World Cup campaign begins against Number two ranked nation, Belgium.

Davies has played 34 games for Canada, scoring 12 goals.
