Season Overview:

Chelsea retained their Premier League title under José Mourinho, dominating the league and finishing eight points ahead of Manchester United. The Blues secured the title with a 3-0 win over United at Stamford Bridge in late April.

Manchester United and Liverpool were the closest challengers, while Arsenal finished fourth in dramatic fashion, pipping Tottenham on the final day after Spurs’ squad was hit by food poisoning.

At the bottom, Sunderland endured a miserable campaign, finishing with just 15 points. West Brom and Birmingham City joined them in relegation, marking a disappointing season for the Midlands clubs.

Chelsea pulled away from the pack by remaining unbeaten as we headed towards the final month of 2005, while Wigan surprisingly climbed into the top four.

Chelsea extended their lead, while West Ham secured a thrilling 4-2 win over Newcastle to close out the year.

February 2006 – Liverpool’s Resurgence

Liverpool put together a strong winning run, including against Manchester City and Arsenal, to consolidate their top-four position. Steven Gerrard was key in those victories, as evidenced by the fact he won the Player of the Month for February.

March 2006 – Spurs Push for Fourth

April 2006 – Chelsea Secure the Title

Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Manchester United confirmed their second consecutive title. Jose Mourinho really did seem to have the better of Sir Alex Ferguson, something that wouldn’t have sat well with the Scotsman.

May 2006 – Final Day Drama

Arsenal overtook Tottenham for fourth place after Spurs’ food poisoning incident, while West Ham beat Tottenham to secure UEFA Cup football.
