In a quick but not so surprising turn of events, Tottenham have sacked interim-boss Cristian Stellini, in the wake of Spurs’ embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.

In a game that meant a lot for the race to seal a Champions League spot, Newcastle ran riot on the north London side and were 5-0 up within 20 minutes.

It could have been worse but it ended up 6-1 on the afternoon, with Harry Kane grabbing what was barely a consolation goal for the visitors.

That result has now put Tottenham in a tight spot to secure a top-four finish, with Spurs six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, having played two games more than the Red Devils.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was quick to make a decision to sack interim-boss Cristian Stellini, who was supposed to lead the team to the end of the season, following Antonio Conte’s disumissal.

In a bid to salvage something of Tottenham’s woeful season, a statement from the club read: “Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.”

Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.”

Kane tipped to leave Tottenham

In line with Tottenham’s disappointing season so far, many have strongly tipped Harry Kane to leave the club this summer, having come close to joining Manchester City in recent time.

Danny Murphy made his thoughts known on the matter, saying: “Although he is one of the best strikers in the world, sometimes as we’ve seen, having one or two wonderful players doesn’t make the whole jigsaw fit.”

“And I think if you’ve got someone coming in who really wants to play high press, they might be OK in taking some dough for him.”

“He’s got to be sick to death of playing in a team that’s so poor and uncompetitive.”
