Kyle Walker seeks new Man City contract amidst transfer links to Serie A

England Three Lions right-back Kyle Walker is not interested in a move to Italy to play for AC Milan and is seeking a contract extension at Manchester City.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man joined the Premier League defending champions in 2017 as one of Pep Guardiola’s first big buys. He has gone on to win multiple titles as one of the Spaniard’s most trusted lieutenants in that time.

The 32-year-old, who rose through the ranks at Sheffield United before moving to North London to play for Spurs, is now a four-time Premier League champion, a four-time EFL (Carabao) Cup champion and an FA Cup champion.

He has the opportunity to add to his achievements this season with Man City in the final of the FA Cup which they will battle city rivals Manchester United for. They are also within reach of overtaking Arsenal to retain their Premier League Winners title.

This will make him one of an exclusive list of players to have ever done a Premier League three-peat. A UEFA Champions League title is also on the horizon but before then stands Real Madrid, the deadliest team in the history of the competition. Walker is a key part of the City squad who will face all these challenges.

Having played at such a high level for six seasons, Walker, who also had stints at Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa at the early stages of his career, is not ready to give it up. Guardiola still regards him as a key player but is gradually shaping his team to be able to play without him.

This has led to him falling down the pecking order a little bit and AC Milan is hoping to snap him up while he is still at the peak of his powers. This is according to the Daily Star, who reports that Walker wants to stay and see out the final year of his £150,000-a-week contract and possibly negotiate an extension with the club’s board, who have not made any moves to renew him.

Walker, who will cost £25 million to acquire this summer, is also wanted by Aston Villa who are currently sixth on the Premier League table.

They see him as a good option to have as they prepare to get back into the thrill of European football. Walker, however, is determined to stay and fight for his place in Guardiola’s team and possibly make more history with the flagship football organisation of the City Football Group.

It is also believed that he is eyeing a return to his boyhood club Sheffield United someday and that he is only interested in rejoining the Blades after he is certain that his time at Manchester City is truly over.

It remains to be seen what City would do with Walker as the summer approaches.
