Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister is being courted by six clubs ahead of a summer transfer and Liverpool are leading the race according to reports.

The 24-year-old midfielder moved from Argentinos Juniors to Brighton in 2019 but remained on loan in Argentina for one year, spending time with two clubs. He would make his official Brighton debut in 2019/20 and the rest, as they say, is history.

Mac Allister has been one of the league’s brightest since his English football debut and those performances drew the attention of the handlers of the Argentina national team, who took a chance on the unknown lad in that same year.

Now a World Cup winner – the first and only to ever play for Brighton in the club’s history – his stock has risen even higher at the club and in football. Before his move to join La Albiceleste in November ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, however, he signed a new contract with the club in anticipation of a good tournament which would bring suitors. The move turned out to be an astute one by Brighton, who are set for a big payout from the player who they paid £6.9 million for.

He is now worth £70 million and is being courted by Liverpool and five other clubs ahead of a move in the summer.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are the other clubs interested in the midfielder. The Anfield Reds are in the lead for his signature, per reports. The player’s camp is also believed to be pressuring Brighton to let him go.

The players father, Carlos Mac Allister, a former footballer himself who represented Boca Juniors and played with Diego Maradona, believes that the fee Brighton want for his son will keep him in the Premier League.

“The next phase of his career will pass and he will be playing within another institution, we don’t know which one as the talking are just beginning in general but most likely by next month,” Carlos Mac Allister added while speaking to Argentine outlet Ole about his son’s future. “From July he will be playing for another team.”

The player, on the other hand, is very happy to continue at Brighton until his contract runs out in 2025. “I know there’s a lot of talk and I think it’s normal after winning the World Cup. Already, in the January market, there was a lot of talk, but I’m very calm. I focus on playing, on training every day, on continuing to improve,” he said to ESPN.

“Later in the summer, we’ll see. If an offer arrives that could be good for the club and for me, we will sit down and talk. If not, I will continue to be very happy at this club.”
