Thiago Silva believes Chelsea would feel the impact of the departure of Jorginho. The Italy international made a January switch to cross-city rivals Arsenal.

No Premier League club or any side in Europe has been able to match the spending might of Chelsea. The west London side has been on a spending spree buying players.

It is almost as if Todd Boehly is unconcerned about Financial Fair Play (FFP). The Blues went big in the summer and did not slow down in the winter.

The Blues signed 16 players this season but cannot register three of their recruits for the UEFA Champions League. The transfers bring their total to a little above €600 million. It is not like Boehly is bothered, but he will need to shed some fat to ensure his acquisitions function at their maximum capacity.

Chelsea need to trim its squad to avoid friction, and the club is keen to let some players go. One player that has already left the club is Champions League and European Cup winner Jorginho. The Italian midfielder joined Arsenal this January, and defensive henchman Thiago Silva believes the club would feel his departure.

With the heavy outlay on players this January, Chelsea have only let one player leave the club. Jorginho has swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates this winter in a deal worth about £12 million. Many believe the move is a good one for Chelsea and a terrible idea for Arsenal, but one player insists that Chelsea would regret the transfer.

Thiago Silva is unimpressed with the deal that saw Jorginho leave Stamford Bridge this January. The Brazilian international confessed that Chelsea is the loser in this deal. Thiago Silva believes it is a massive loss for the club.

Speaking with ESPN Brasil, Thiago Silva lamented the move saying it was to a direct competitor, but he consoled himself by claiming it is football and these things happen.

With six months left on his Chelsea deal, the club could have renewed his contract, but they chose to cut him loose. Silva is disappointed to see Jorginho leave Stamford Bridge. He said Jorginho wanted to stay in England because he has family here, but Silva agreed there are things they have no control over, and people need to understand the player’s side.

While Jorginho is off to Arsenal, Silva has assured Chelsea fans that he will sign a new contract soon. He said he would not leave the club in a lurch.

Silva’s contract expires in the summer, but he feels even more obligated to stay at Stamford Bridge and assist with their seismic rebuild and squad restructuring.

The veteran defender said discussions were ongoing over his new contract. According to the Brazilian, everything would be over in the next few days. Silva said he intends to continue with the Blues and knows the club needs him now.
