In exciting news for Manchester City fans, Pep Guardiola has extended his contract at the club until 2025.
The news comes as a surprise for City fans, who were left wondering what the Spaniard’s decision was going to be after he held off on signing an extension in the summer. However, it looks like he is going to be staying until 2025 to help them solidify their place in Premier League and English football history.
Unconfirmed reports earlier in the month claimed that both parties had come to a verbal agreement on the new terms of Guardiola’s contract. Things have changed now, with confirmed reports of the official announcement expected soon.
Guardiola and City have now agreed to continue their partnership until 2025, which will extend his time at the Etihad to nine years.
He has already broken habit by staying beyond 2019, as he had only managed his past clubs for three years. However, the 51-year-old has built an impressive project in Manchester and is happy to stay on to see it mature.
One of the reasons is definitely Erling Haaland, who joined the club at the beginning of the season and has made an impact that not even Guardiola expected.
The former Barcelona manager, who has previously admitted that he is looking forward to life after Manchester City, has also spoken about his time at the club and why he is happy with what he has built.
“I’ve been since the day one, incredibly comfortable, for all the departments in the club and for the hierarchy of course, but especially working with these players,” he said.
“What can I say for the people on the street, in the stadium, how they take care of me and my family. That’s why I’m in the seventh season here. I didn’t expect it when we arrived.
“It is because I’m comfortable and importantly because we won a lot, and when you win a lot, that helps to continue, because this club right now, I’m sorry for the future, the standards are there, and all of us, we have to fight to maintain it there.
“The people, our fans, will live for the memories, they’ll live, it’s so nice, we enjoy together, but this season, our fans want more.
“They are hungry to see good football games and enjoy them. I’m pretty sure the fans want to win the Premier League, but they want it every weekend, we want to have the stadium, our fans, when we are away, they are exceptional every time we go away, they want to see the team playing good, enjoying and represent our club as best as possible, and this is our target.”
