Conte claims that he needs to add more quality to a Spurs side that has enjoyed massive investment under the Italian. Spurs go into the World Cup break behind Newcastle, Man City and Arsenal and are ahead of Manchester United, Liverpool and a misfiring Chelsea. Despite their position, Conte believes he needs to make a move in the January transfer window.
The Italian gaffer said Spurs need to get their recruitment right to compete with the biggest sides and to challenge for the top trophies. He also said to be considered title contenders and win the big trophies, he needs players with great quality. Conte cited Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea as examples of teams with great players saying they are strong sides.
Tottenham survive Leeds United’s test
Tottenham needed to beat Leeds United to remain in the top four as the Premier League goes on break for the World Cup. The North London side took advantage of their early game to move into the third position before Newcastle took on Chelsea. Tottenham beat Leeds 4-3, but it was far from easy.
Leeds went into the lead three times, but could not hold on to the lead as Spurs came from behind to nick all three points. The win highlights the defensive frailties of Conte’s side, but remain in good stead to challenge for the Premier League. Tottenham had goals from Harry Kane, Ben Davies and a brace from Rodrigo Bentacur to thank for the win.
The winning goal sparked wild celebrations from both Spurs fans, Conte and his staff. After the game, Conte said the game made many Spurs fans happy. He claims it was attractive football and was something for the fans to be excited about. Conte continued that his boys showed their character, desire and a massive will not give up. According to Conte, they believed till the end.
